The parents of a college freshman at Rutgers who committed suicide not so long ago are debating about suing the school for negligence.
Both Joseph and his wife Jane Clementi filed several legal notices yesterday which allowed them the right to reserve legal action should they feel that it is in fact a necessary step.
Tyler Clementi’s parents have been seen/heard blaming Rutgers for their son’s suicide, saying that they did not enforce the anti-bullying policies which would have effectively prevented this from happening.
Clementi was a successful violinist and looked to have a bright future when he started off at Rutgers.
He ended up leaping off the George Washington Bridge after the attention from his gay tryst was too much to bear.
His suicide was the result of Clementi being filmed with another man in his room using a webcam that his roommate had set up. They have stated that they have not yet decided whether they want to follow suit against Rutgers for failure to enact the laws and policies that should have have prevented their son’s death.
The university has stated that they are mourning the loss of one of their own and share in the family’s grieving.
