California Elementary School Shooting: Witness Chris Chandler Speaks – A gunman parked his car outside of Kelly Elementary School in California on Friday, jumped a fence, and started to shoot at a number of students who were playing on the playground at the time. Two children were hit in the arm by bullets before bystanders were able to subdue the shooter. Now, witnesses are saying that the shooter was “not all there” in the head and hinted that something might have been wrong with him.
During an appearance on the “Early Show,” Chris Chandler, one of the men who subdued the shooter, said during the interview that you could tell just by looking into his eyes that he was not all there. What possessed him to drive to an elementary school and start shooting at children, we may never know.
Chandler said that he suspected that the first gunshot was just a car backfiring, but upon hearing a second shot, he ran over to the school to see what was going on. He quickly saw the gunman, tracked him, and eventually tackled him.
Chandler admitted that the suspect took quite a beating before the police arrived. Her referenced some nearby construction workers that put their steel toed boots to good use after the suspect had been subdued. Chandler said that he asked the man why he was shooting at the children, and all he was able to do was grunt.
After the police arrived, Chandler did a search around the school to ensure that no other assailants were there. During his inspection he found a blood trail, and called paramedics to let them know that there were injuries. All of those who were injured in the incident are expected to be alright and do not have life threatening injuries.
