3D Games Bad For Young Children Says Nintendo Boss Reggie Fils-Aime

Some management bosses from Nintendo have been advising young children to stay clear of 3D games. Nintendo held a handheld console gathering at E3 in 2010 where they discussed the 3DS. The 3DS is the next handheld Nintendo platform which has been well recognized for its free 3D display features. Many gamers see wearing a headset or glasses during gameplay as a seriously negative downfall of 3D gaming. With the Nintendo 3DS they have essentially eliminated this fault. On the positive side of things, Nintendo’s 3DS is also being recognized for the early development of popular games like Kid Icarus, Star Fox and Super Mario Bros.

Nintendo of America and its president, Reggie Fils-Aime said that there are some warnings that children of a certain age need to hear if they are going to partake in 3D gaming. It’s believed that children under the age of 7 years old could suffer from dangerous consequences from playing the games. Their comment was released to the public, “We will recommend that very young children not look at 3D images. That’s because in young children, the muscles for eyes are not fully formed.”

Fortunately, 3D gaming appears to be safe for those individuals over the age of 7. 3D has been recognized for being particularly hard on the eyes and can cause blurry vision and other concerns. It is fortunate that there are no ill affects from 3D images in older generations.

The president also noted that this is not just a caution towards the Nintendo 3DS. Rather, he is advising all parents to further evaluate the risks of 3D gaming for every system. Other consoles are preparing for releases into the 3D gaming department and he said that “this is the same messaging that the industry is putting out with 3D movies, so it is a standard protocol. We have the same type of messaging for the Virtual Boy, as an example.”
