The latest trend to hit Facebook involves users putting cartoon characters as the default picture on their profile page instead of an image of themselves. These childhood cartoon pictures are spreading like wildfire, with thousands of people encouraging their friends to put up one so there is not a picture of a single human on the social networking site.
According reports there is an impressive amount cartoon search terms being put into Google such as “Rainbow Brite, Ren and Stimpy” and “Doug”.
Even though these types of trends occur all the time, there is apparently a charitable reason for this one. A note from Facebook states that until December 7th users should change their profile pictures to that of a cartoon so all that is seen is a flood of memories from each person’s childhood, a stance that is being taken against childhood violence which is on the rise according to the latest statistics.
More and more people from around the world are participating in this trend which is quickly growing and spreading across the social networking site faster than anyone ever anticipated.
It seems as though many people are getting into the spirit of the season and doing their best to give what they can with regards to awareness of childhood violence.
