The match between Italy and Paraguay ended in a tie. There have been numerous ties throughout this years World Cup action. Neither team was able to win all three points that are awarded after a victory, and instead both teams were awarded one point. Paraguay was in the lead in the 40th minute of the game, after Antolin Alcaraz was able to head in a ball that was perfectly delivered to his location by Aureliano Torres.
Italy was never able to completely rebound, and fell into a daze that lasted well into the second half of play. Daniele de Rossi would later score to even the match up.
The Italian score did not come until the 63rd minute of action. The score came off of a corner kick. Pepe was able to float the ball into the six yard box, where the goalkeeper came off of his line in order to grab the ball, but did so indecisively. Villar went to knock the ball in, but was unable to. Then he watched as de Rossi tapped the ball into the open net, leaving the score tied. The score would remain 1-1 until the end of the match.
Both teams looked as though they were lax on the field, and never played up to the level that either team is capable of. Either team had their chances to secure the victory, but was unable to do so throughout the match. There were many opportunities for both teams, but neither capitalized on the opportunities that were presented to them throughout the match.
