The match between Germany and Australia was one of the most anticipated matches of the first round. Unfortunately for fans of the Australian team, they did not receive the outcome that they were looking for at the end of the day. They quickly fell behind 2-0 in the first half of the match. They went into halftime hoping to turn things around and come out and score a quick goal, but that did not happen. Instead, they received more goals from the German team who took a 3-0 lead against them. Eventually, Germany would end up winning the match 4-0 against an Australian team that appeared to be very deflated.
Australia was just not able to hold off the superior offense that was brought by the German squad. They had several opportunities to make a shot throughout the game, but were ultimately unable to capitalize on the chances they were given by the German team. The loss is a bitter one for Australian supporters , many of whom thought they were sitting down to watch a close match, and not the route that ensued in front of them.
The win places Germany at the top of Group D. They are even in points with Ghana. Ghana was also able to secure a victory against Serbia in a close 1-0 match today. Germany is considered by many to be the superior team, and is now the easy favorite to win Group D. The Australian team appeared to be upset with the way that they had played. Tim Cahill received a red card of the game in the second half, and the team really never looked like a striking force from that point on. Germany was awarded three points for their victory today, while Australia was awarded none for their loss.

Germany deserved the win! They played better and proved themselves to be one of the biggest favorites to win the cup this year, against all odds.
