It seems the days of President Bush are almost forgotten. A lot of new health laws are coming into place and the Government is certainly focusing its efforts on pushing sex education. In fact, sex education now swallows up around millions of dollars per annum in an effort to preserve the health of teenagers and adults alike.
Part of the new programs will be something called the Personal Responsibility Education Program. In total, these programs will swallow up around $375 million in grants. Of course, the programs are designed to deter teens from being sexually active.
Many teens are sexually active though; in fact around 50% of high school students are. In this case, the program aims to highlight the importance of protecting themselves whilst having sex.
A lot of the content includes the discussion of contraceptives and condoms. They will explain the differences between what is available as well as their risks. Of course, a lot of teens think they are 100% effective, but of course, we know that risks and failure rates vary – these are all things that are discussed.
There a lot of people criticizing the new law, with both good and bad views. The majorities are in favor of the increased sex education and the fact the Government is actually devoting some of their fund to this cause.
For the past few years it seems like nothing has been done. People are unaware of the dangers and subsequently, a lot of teenage pregnancies occur because of this fact. Hopefully, the new effort from the Government will increase awareness and decrease the chances of an increased rate of “accidents”.
Here is quite an amazing fact; over 19 million new sexually transmitted infections are passed every year. Of this volume, around 50% are between people aged 15-24, which is quite shocking.
